"Seeds of Hope inspires, strengthens and supports those willing to serve by connecting them with opportunities to provide hope and services to those in need."

 Why Volunteer?

Because one person can make a great difference...

When you volunteer you are giving something back to your community by lending a helping hand to people and organizations in need. What you may not realize is that when you give hope to those without any you are also the one whose heart will be changed.

Whether you decide to volunteer for a day, week or the rest of your life, committing yourself to service is a big step. You will have a big impact upon yourself and upon others. Here are some questions to help you reflect upon the decision to volunteer.

Why do I want to be a volunteer?
Everybody decides to volunteer for different reasons. Are you idealistic? Do you want to deepen your relationship with God? Are you committed to social justice? Do you anticipate personal growth? Do you want to change your life?

What are my expectations?
What do you expect from volunteering? What do you expect from your program and specific placement?

What do I have to offer?
What gifts can you share with others? What are your strengths/weaknesses? What professional skills do you bring?

What gives me satisfaction?
At the end of the day, what makes you feel good? What do you find comfort in? What do you like to do with others? How do you spend your time when you’re alone?

Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink?  Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?  “And the King will say, I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!"   Mathew 25:37-40

What follows are a collection of inspirational and motivational quotes to encourage you to volunteer, and perhaps explain why so many people do.

To show great love for God and our neighbor we need not do great things. It is how much love we put in the doing that makes our offering something beautiful for God.

Mother Theresa

“I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.”

Albert Schweitzer

We are prone to judge success by the index of our salaries or the size of our automobiles, rather than by the quality of our service relationship to humanity.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
